Anthony & Arnikka's First Valentines Day Together
“During the week of Valentine’s Day, I saw that the Winnipeg Jets and the Colorado Avalanche were playing in Winnipeg on Valentine’s Day. My favorite hockey team is the Colorado Avalanche,” Anthony Schreier said.
“That’s my mom’s favorite team also, because she’s originally from Colorado,” Arnikka Thompson said.
“I see this, and I look on Google Maps to see how long the drive is — it’s only a five-and-a-half-hour drive from Minot to Winnipeg. I turned to her and said, ‘Hey, Valentine’s Day is on Thursday, so we’d have to miss some classes. What do you think about that?’”
The couple missed symphony class, drove up to Winnipeg just in time for the start of the game, and drove back in time for an exam the next morning at 8 a.m.
“I bought tickets — they were nosebleeds, all the way up in the back section. We watched two couples get engaged that night right in front of us, of course — one on the big screen and one, literally, right in front of us,” Schreier said. “Then our row ended up winning a contest because a guy was dressed up and was voted as the fan favorite of the game, so we got coupons for free pizza. And the Avalanche won by a lot!”
“We drove back, got back about 4 in the morning, took a nap, and went to our exam and failed miserably,” Thompson said.
The couple may have failed their exam, but at least they failed together. On the positive side, not everything was a failure — they shared in the success of their favorite hockey team, the Colorado Avalanche.
