5K Fun Run Relocates Back to MSU

In previous years, the 5K Fun Run was held at Oak Park, but this year, the Fun Run will be held on the Minot State campus Thursday, Sept 20 at 6:30 p.m.

“We’re hoping Thursday night will bring out more people who are interested, because it’s on campus,” Karina Stander, wellness specialist, said.

Participants have extra opportunities by signing up for this year’s Fun Run.

“We made it just a flat rate of $20 and that includes a T-shirt. The first 50 get a homecoming T-shirt, and participants after that will get an MSU T-shirt,” Stander said regarding participation.

More participation will also bring more scholarship opportunity for the MSU students.

“$10 of the registration fee goes towards the MSU Well Scholarship,” Stander said.

Relocating the event back to campus will also give a boost to the Homecoming energy on campus.

“It’s Homecoming, and it should feel all about MSU as well as being Homecoming for the entire city. Oak Park is a great venue, but it’s disengaged from campus,” Stander said.

The route for the Fun Run begins on campus and continues through the surrounding perimeter.

“Starting from 11th Ave in front of the Wellness Center, then run down to 16th St., then from 16th St. to University Ave. From University Ave. to Broadway, and then back up past the Wellness Center. For those who want to do a full 5K, they will then continue the run by completing one lap around the campus,” Stander said

The Fun Run is co-hosted by the Balancing Instinct First Year Experience group.

“A group of freshmen are getting the experience of being able to help put on the event,” Stander said regarding her FYE class. “They are going to be soliciting for prizes. Having the students take part in the event planning, brings them, overall, a great learning experience.”
