Lace Up for Literacy 5K Fun Run

The North Central Reading Council (NCRC) brings Lace Up for Literacy 5K fun run and walk to Minot. The NCRC is a part of North Dakota Reading Association (NDRA), which promotes literacy locally and globally.

Sara Medalen, a teacher at Sunnyside Elementary and member of the NCRC, hosted the same event earlier this year.

“Last April, we had a big conference in Bismarck where we held a Lace Up for Literacy and we decided to bring it to Minot,” Medalen said.

Lace up for literacy will be held at Oak Park, Minot, North Dakota on Sept. 8, at 8 a.m. While the pre-registration for the event has ended, participants can still register through NDRA’s web page, or, on race day with a registration fee of $25.

The proceeds of the fun run and walk will be used for area literacy events including the maintenance of the Little Free Libraries in Minot. These libraries are shaped like a birdhouse and commonly found near parks or elementary schools. The community can donate, borrow, and return books from these birdhouses for free.

To register for the run/walk online, go to NDRA.WildApricot.org.
