Food pantry for all students
Hunger is a struggle that can affect everyone and asking for help can be cause for embarrassment, but the pantry on campus is set up to help students.
“I am aware of the situations our students are in. If you don’t have money for everyday use, you’ll go hungry,” Kevin Harmon, vice president for student affairs, said.
For several years, local organizations and churches have provided a holiday meal for students who couldn’t return home for the holidays. In December of last year, a new addition was added to this event—a winter clothing and food drive.
“It was perfect timing,” Harmon said, as a particularly rough blizzard had recently occurred.
The food pantry is located in the conference room on the second floor of the Wellness Center leading to the Dome. It is open to any students in need—on or off campus. Students will find a variety of nonperishable, quick-prep foods like instant noodles, macaroni and cheese, and assorted snack items.
Everyone is welcome to make donations to the pantry. Donations may be made directly to the pantry in the Wellness Center. In addition to food, the pantry is also accepting gently-used winter outerwear, including coats, boots, mittens, and gloves.
